Who Needs to Attend a Studienkolleg?

You may be required to attend a Studienkolleg if you completed 12 years of schooling (such as most national or Arab high school diplomas), your secondary school certificate is not equivalent to the German Abitur, or you are not directly eligible for admission to a German university according to official recognition criteria.

Program Structure

Duration: One academic year (two semesters).

Language of Instruction: German.

Content: Intensive German language training along with core subjects based on your academic focus.

Final Exam: Feststellungspruefung (FSP) — the university qualification exam you must pass to apply to a German university.

Admission Requirements

  • Recognised High School Diploma — or equivalent qualification
  • German Language Proficiency — commonly B1 or B2 level
  • Admission Test (Aufnahmeprüfung) — required by most Studienkollegs
  • Valid Passport

Application Steps

  • Verify your eligibility using the anabin database or uni-assist
  • Choose the appropriate Studienkolleg based on your intended university major
  • Reach the required German language level (B1 or B2)
  • Apply for and pass the entrance examination
  • Enrol in the Studienkolleg after passing the exam
  • Complete the academic year and pass the FSP exam
  • Apply to German universities using your FSP results
